Do You Believe In Jobs For Clatsop County?

There are individuals who live here, next door to you, down the street, who view jobs as bad. Trees are good. Jobs are bad.

Trees are an important natural resource. But there are individuals who view not the trees, but the forests. To harvest a stand of trees is to destroy the forest, therefore, we must protect every stand of trees. There is no moderation for the true believer. If they don't protect every stand of trees, no forest will remain whole, or viable, or whatever. It's not just trees, it's habitat!

On and on they drone. Still busy boosting such valuable proposals as chrome and plastic light-rail trains, chrome and steel electric cars, unused to thinking about where these steel and aluminum constructs originate. (Fighting a war against plastic bags because somewhere along the line they picked up the idea that Exxon and the Saudi Arabian petroleum barrels they ship to the U.S. end up as bags in your local, corner market.)

Tonight these vaunted heroes of the Forests, of the Earth, the River and the Caring are planning on packing the Clatsop County Commission meeting tonight. Led by Pacific University Political Science prof Bob Van Dyk, the boys and girls who don't want to allow us to use the timber we own, on our own land, will be on hand, using keywords like "balanced," and "long-term," and "science-based." If you think that trees should be cut, you obviously lack any kind of science basis for your view. That means, you're a dummy and should shut up.

Geeze.

And it's not just the jobs. It's the money. Clatsop County has a lot of potential revenue setting up there on those hills. Trees we paid to plant. Land we invested in to allow the growth of that timber.

How to stop this rape of Gaia? We're going to be hearing about "clear-cutting." Clear-cutting! The indiscriminate rape of the forests! It destroys habitat, leaves hillsides bare! No mention ever, at all, of how quickly juvenile stands uptake carbon dioxide, or that younger stands have greater health than old stands. That would be science in the wrong direction. We need the right kind of science, science that sees that forests produce more than trees.

Well, good luck to my fellow county residents. We've elected a bunch of goof-balls in order to avoid developing any kind of commercial economy that doesn't rely upon antique stores or government grants. So, I don't expect the proposed timber plan to be adopted. The Left is Clatsop County is like a school of fish. Spook them and they all tend to dart in the same direction. You may get one or two of them to listen to reason, but in the main, they all tend to be fellow followers. Beat down one objection, like no salmon streams affected, and then up pops clear-cutting as an outrage.

They don't want you to different than they. It's in your best interest to be, just like them. Forward looking. Science-based. Hand out. It's a way of life.
