Howz That Union Thing Working Out For You?

Back in September, I provided a link to this article, "Boeing Co. employees vote to disband union."

It seems the Boeing Company is concerned about labour as an input. The workers in South Carolina decided that they'd rather have jobs than not.

This quote from the Washington Policy Center, "South Carolina is a right-to-work state, where workers do not have to be members of a union as a condition for employment (a novel concept). Of course, this will never fly in Washington state -- just as long as we're prepared to lose business over it apparently."

Of course, it gets funnier when you learn how the IAM responded.

Washington politicians knew this was coming. They just couldn't admit it to themselves. BTW--we know what's coming in Oregon, too. But our Smart and Important Governor and State Legislators aren't willing to admit it to themselves, too.

Things are going to get bad. Oh well. Hope and change.

State Control Of Prices

There are reasons why government control of what we make and how we make it is a bad idea. Here's an example of the kind of tortuous thinking that goes into establishing the price of a thing, due to governmental fiat.

Worse than that, even if you don't understand the discussion linked above, is a simple take-away: "Petroleum Ministry is also of the view that Ethanol contains less energy (about 40 percent) compared to motor gasoline."

Why we should use ethanol is beyond me. It takes the energy of three gallons of gas to make four gallons of ethanol. For forty percent less energy.

Brilliant.
