If My Buddy Rick Was Alive, He'd Be Doing This!

Before he died, one of my best friends was revisiting his college studies of the Greek language and opening a new study into music theory. I was his source for music theory. He taught me things about the Greek language. I miss Rick & his wonderful wife, Sharon.

Rick and I would cook a meal for our wives and prepare the meal according to the country represented by an opera. German for Wozzeck, French for la Boheme. The wives would listen, following along in our efforts at translation, while we cooked. A couple of bottles of wine later, we'd talk about the opera. Cool beans.

That's why I've been following the efforts of Politburo Diktat. He has had an interesting take on current events, but is currently on a personal odyssey that is taking him throught the works of Xenophon in the original language. I've given the link to my oldest son, whose name is Cyrus. I've always been a big fan of autochthony and have encourage my son to know the origins of his name, not just that he was named after my great-grandfather, but that a name has its own meanings.

If you have any curiousity at all, click here for his latest entry. Sure to be the victim of another Instalanche!

Proof That Believers In Man Made Global Warming Are Morons

Thanks to Are We Lumberjacks?

Who gives us this link.

From the article (LiveScience, 30 October 2007):

"Melting glaciers in Western Canada are revealing tree stumps up to 7,000 years old where the region's rivers of ice have retreated to a historic minimum, a geologist said today."

Think about it. Historic minimum. Trees.

Were the trees "planted" there by Global Warming Deniers? Must have been, if this is an historic minimum, no? AWL asks, "what was man doing 7000 years ago to warm the planet enough for trees to be growing there in the first place?"

Good question. But it takes a certain type of mind to generate enthusiasm for Man Made Global Warming in the first place. I just don't got it.

What's Up with the Dems?

While Republicans are focused on Rudy versus Fred, not much attention is being given to what's happening on the Dem side. I just thought I'd share this e-mail I received this morning. It's from Chris Dodd. Who? Yeah, that's right, it's not all Hilary and Obama. I guess Joe Biden is running, too. Which one, Dodd or Biden, is the Dem's Ron Paul is hard to say. Neither one has a chance. I am sure that when we watch Senator Biden doing one of his stand-ups on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that we're going to hear him say something like, "and that's one of the reasons I ran for President." Joe is all about the Joe. But Dodd? Here's what he had to say:

"Dear Friend --I only have a few moments on my way back up to New Hampshire.

"I asked my Campaign Manager for an update on what we accomplished online during the month of October, and I was so pleased with her response I wanted to make sure you saw the email chain.

"She tells me that in addition to a spike in traffic and mentions on progressive blogs, we could beat John Edwards October online fundraising goal if I emailed a few people and asked them to help get us there.

"So, it might be one day removed from October, but if you chipped in $27 right now we can pass another campaign in this important indicator of support.

"You can contribute here:

"I'll be in touch,

"Chris"

For a dem, beating another second tier candidate on fund-raising is a victory. Such is life among the Lefties. But don't worry. They're all going to get right into your lives if you vote for them.

Have a nice day! Last night was deadline night for my son's early admission's application for college. What a brutal ordeal. If your kid plans on college, get to work on it early. It's already later than you think! But I'm done! Hooray!

The Idiocy of Governor Kulongoski's Energy Plan

Played out in the pages of your everyday life.

When the Guv decided to make an example out of Oregon I told you he was a moron. That prices for energy were going to go up.

Here's the latest:

""Gas prices continue to climb." AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "The national average increased five-and-a-half- cents in the past week to $2.88, And Oregon's statewide average jumps seven cents to $3.07 per gallon this week."

"Oregon's gas prices are again the fifth-highest in the nation this week, behind Hawaii at $3.197, California at $3.194, Washington at $3.148, and Alaska at $3.111. Idaho's average is $2.970..."

Sure, the well-head price is up. But Oregon has introduced structural costs in the market for gasoline. Because the Guv wants you to believe. Believe in the dream. The Vision Thingy.

All I want from government is better schools and highways. What I get is Vision Thingies.

And higher gas prices.

Truthers On Display in Portland

Hey, if you have some time and want to see what Truthers look like, mark next Tuesday on your calendar.

It's the Truth Follies! starring William Rodriquez!

I've watched this guy on C-Span. It's truly disturbing. Among the flock of the faithful it should be truly disappointing. It makes me want to hang out with goth kids.

I'd go but I have a dentist appointment that day. Oh, and a state audit. I'd rather see the dentist and go through the audit than sit through this event.
