Before he died, one of my best friends was revisiting his college studies of the Greek language and opening a new study into music theory. I was his source for music theory. He taught me things about the Greek language. I miss Rick & his wonderful wife, Sharon.
Rick and I would cook a meal for our wives and prepare the meal according to the country represented by an opera. German for Wozzeck, French for la Boheme. The wives would listen, following along in our efforts at translation, while we cooked. A couple of bottles of wine later, we'd talk about the opera. Cool beans.
That's why I've been following the efforts of Politburo Diktat. He has had an interesting take on current events, but is currently on a personal odyssey that is taking him throught the works of Xenophon in the original language. I've given the link to my oldest son, whose name is Cyrus. I've always been a big fan of autochthony and have encourage my son to know the origins of his name, not just that he was named after my great-grandfather, but that a name has its own meanings.
