Senator Smith Remains Faithful to Failure

You're not surprised, are you? In a vote this morning Senator Smith continues his allegiance to the Lefty Democrats while moderate Democrats abandon the defeat/retreat movement. Today's vote was 47-47. They're losing votes.

Why can't the Senator have a Brian Baird moment?

Oregon deserves better.

Straight Reporting

Click on the banner. If CBS continues this trend of "straight reporting" I may have to start watching again.

Really. It's unbelievable.

Lefty Inconsistencies

Here’s an example:

CBS News has released their interview with Ahmadinejad, the President of Iran, questioning his planned visit to the World Trade Center site during his visit next week. Sixty Minutes Scott Pelley asked:

"But the American people, sir, believe that your country is a terrorist nation, exporting terrorism in the world. You must have known that visiting the World Trade Center site would infuriate many Americans."

Said Ahmadinejad "Well, I'm amazed.”

Meanwhile, Columbia University has invited Ahmadinejad to speak to that campus’ students. ROTC students at Columbia have to go to Fordham University in the Bronx for their training because of the military’s restrictions on gays in the military. The law, passed by the democrat controlled congress was signed into law by President Clinton in 1993. Unlike the military, in Iran gays are executed.

Your thoughts?

It Makes Idaho More Attractive Every Day

Voting with your feet? It's a thought.

From North Dakota's Say Anything: "Stop and consider that for a moment. Twenty-five sitting Senators, one of whom is running for President, voting against mere support for the general the Senate voted unanimously to appoint to his current position. A General who is currently in command of some 140,000+ troops in Iraq."

From Oregon, Senator Ron Wyden. From Washington? Both senators.

Time to Cowboy Up

UPDATE: Sure, I said earlier that Sneakator Gordo would vote for defeat in Iraq. He did. Welcome home, Senator. Don't spend much time in Ontario, do you?

It's time for Senator Smith to fool the pundits and follow through with his political metamorphosis by changing parties. For Republicans, it's time to cowboy up.

Today's vote on Detainee Rights is an example. Amendment 2022 would restore an enemy combatant detainees right to have access to a federal court in order to appeal their case.

Smith voted for it.

Later today the Senate will vote on the Troop Deployment Amendment. This overreaching--in Constitutional terms--will limit the President's ability to determine whether troops are "eligible" to serve in Iraq. Key items:

"Regular military personnel will be allowed to return home for as long as they were previously deployed

"National Guard / Reserve personnel will not receive re-deployment orders within 3 years of a previous tour

"Special Forces personnel are exempt from these requirements
President can waive these requirements in the event of a major threat to National Security"

Lefties won't increase the size of our military so that we can fight this war. Don't forget, it was President Clinton who reduced the size of our fighting force. Peace dividend anyone? So instead of giving us the tools to fight the war, the Lefties are instead increasing the limitation on use for existing troops. Brilliant this.

Look for Smith to support it.

And the re-introduction of the DREAM Act? Do we owe illegal aliens increased federal aid?

Look for Smith to support it.

Throw in Smith's support for socialized medicine and his green agenda locking up the woods in more of Oregon and you've got what I would call a Democrat.

Time to cowboy up. We are not served by those who turn their backs to our principles.

Anbar Awakens Part II: Hell is Over

I really like Michael Totten's writing. I started reading his stuff years ago, and am always pleased to find something new posted on his site. He's been back from Iraq for a while and has been distilling his experiences there into some incredible posts.

His latest post is on his experiences in Anbar Province.

You know, twenty-five years ago the Oregonian was one of the best newspapers on the West coast. It's become a parrot of the teacher's union and Lefty environmentalists. So I don't expect our "local" paper to ever recognize "local" talent. But imagine if it could! A statewide paper that valued truthful reporting over pushing the narrative theme.

Hey, and hit his tip jar. Even if it's only five bucks. Please.

Some Random Thoughts

Received from the state's employment department (pdf): "State’s unemployment rate holds steady in August".

And, I guess it's true if you don't read the story. Actually, if you read it, you'll find the the Unemployment Rate for Oregon was up 2% in August. A two percent increase in the rate from July to August should be something that the state worries about. States like Idaho have unemployment rates around 2.3%, nearly half of Oregon's rate.

Montana? Same thing. Hawaii's is 2.5%. We're still better off that Michigan at 6.9%, but we're well on our way to becoming a Union/Democrat run state. So expect the rate to continue increasing. In May the unemployment rate (pdf) was 5.0%. From 5.0% to 5.5% doesn't bother our bosses in Salem. It is actually a huge increase in the rate. Socialism works. Just not in the way advertised.

Big story about floods and destruction in Africa. Weather problems? Well, blame Global Warming and send food. Far be it from those of us who are so illiberal that we point out that if these countries had functioning goverments and civil societies, that they would be picking up the pieces themselves without much help from us.

The neat thing is, since this flooding is obviously the result of Global Warming, we need to prop up these governments and hobble our economy in the meantime. Until we control the weather we may not increase our consumption. It's that easy.

Finally, Hillary Care. What I love is the requirement. If passed, my employees will be able to choose between a paycheck and healthcare. Good move, Hill. If I need to cover myself and my employees, I guess I better sell.

Choice is not an option.

Enjoy your day. Remember your government is here to help you. With everything.

Hiring Stupid With Public Money

There are 46,000 teachers and classified personnel in the Oregon Educator's Association. These teachers are employed in all of Oregon's 199 school districts and eight community colleges.

And of all these 46-thousand, not one has the integrity to point out the stupidity of ethanol.

Or, they have integrity. It's just not intellectual integrity.

Look at the graphic above. Just look at it, please.

Out of those 46-thousand teachers, you'd think there would be the intellectual integrity to point out that the Democrat party/Teacher's Union political agenda lacked merit.

We are spending more, and burning more "gasoline" with ethanol than we did before the Democrats and Teacher's Union decided we needed "Save The Earth!"

If you've never spent time visiting your local school, whether it's a grammar or high school, do. Chances are you have no idea what they're doing to our children. Take a look at the web-page for Astoria High School.

According to their webpage, their students are "citizens of the earth, embracing responsibility for self, family, community, and democracy."

I don't want International Communist students. I want my children to learn what makes America great. Being stupid doesn't make you great. But, then, I'm not a public school employee.
