Name the Big Board

I attended Cow State. Had the Beavs beat Cincinatti, I probably would have posted it here. But they didn't. Then Oregon met Michigan or Wisconsin or Manitoba or something, and actually played a game of football.

Besides, this morning I was up at 2am watching soccer from China. That is a game.

Regardless, if you are a part of Beaver Nation, be aware...we've built the largest videoboard in the Pac-10.

Unbelievable, right? But who woulda thought we'd be in a bowl game, and regain control of the U.S. House and Senate in the same year?

Duh.

So vote. Click on the link on the link page. Vote for "Dam Cam". Big Ben? Sasq'watch? Pussy.

Show your fur and vote.

Go Beavs!

John Frohnmayer and Lyndon LaRouche

I wrote, not that long ago, about Oregon's newest candidate to serve as our Senator in Washington, D.C.

I posted it as a "Moonbat Alert", hoping that viewers would stop for a moment and savour the expressed hopes of Senator Wannabe, John Frohnmayer. The comments I received at my cross-posted blog at Redstate were pretty good.

"Does he not realize that should he defeat Sen Smith, George W Bush leaves office on Jan 20, 2009 and that a new president (Fred or Rudy) will be taking office that very day?
That said, I hope he does continue to run against Bush, he's not on the ballot in 2008.

"But what if he declares martial law by bk
and calls off the Presidential election? Yeah that's right. I bet you didn't that about that, did you?

"He's still eligible to run again! And when there is a deadlock at the RNC, W comes riding in for the nomination.... again (and still wins). BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

"Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and he can get this incredibly complex procedure through in two weeks. So the end result...three days of President Cheney before the next Prez is sworn in.

“We don’t need any more cultural centers,” Mr. Coburn said. “We’re fighting a war; why should we be spending any more on a cultural center?”

"That it comes to a point on the top of his head.
James Hansen - Scott THomas Beauchamp with a PhD."

So, pretty good. That John Frohnmayer has self-identified with the Moonbattery of the Far Left pretty much serves to benefit only those of the Moonbat Left.

Then I read Roger L. Simon tonight.

Scenes from the Class Struggle in Studio City

I was in Studio City this evening doing an errand when Sheryl called me on the cell. She wanted some "very good tomatoes" for a crudo pasta she was making. Studio City is a relatively upscale part of LA's SF Valley (for those few left who don't know) and I was yards away from that very upscale super market Gelson's, so I did a u-ey (don't tell the LAPD) and pulled into their parking lot.

When I got out of the car and approached the market, I was immediately confronted by one of those sign-up petition card tables, displaying a wide banner: IMPEACH CHENEY.

Well, I thought, they're in good territory for that. Studio City probably votes about 94% Democratic.
But no one was stopping to sign. What was going on, I wondered? Bush's speech last night must have been successful beyond anyone's imagination.

Drawing closer to the super market entrance, I could see the table more clearly. There was the explanation... Just beneath the boldface Impeach Cheney was the following in smaller print: http://www.larouche.com/.

Lyndon LaRouche - some things never die. His supporters smiled at me with the plastic grin of cultists. "You guys like Ron Paul?" I asked.

One of them nodded. I nodded back and walked inside for my tomatoes.

Hey, John, you da man!

"Saddam Killed Them All"

I like Villianous Company. This is one of "those" websites. A gazillion readers every day. And somehow it was only recently that I added her to my daily read list.

She is a hella good wordsmith. I like that. I wish I was more like her. (Her writing, I don't know if I "really" want to be like her. I'm a size 6.)

But, there was a line from her recitation of President Bush's meeting at Quantico today, where a marine asked, "Where are all the Nelson Mandelas of Iraq?"

President Bush responded, "Saddam killed them all."

Imagine King George III today. Where would Sam Adams be? Tom Jefferson?

It's not just a quaint notion. Remember, that Mike guy with the guns in Colorado movie...Sicko...Moore, called the Iraqi insurgents Minutemen. Some of us recoiled, because defenders of the Baathist Party weren't freedom fighters. They were thugs of the former regime. Later, Moore's freedom fighters were found to be Al queida in Iraq. Thugs.

So...out of curiousity, I AltaVista'd "Saddam Killed Them All". This is what I got. Think about it. There is no Nelson Mandela because Saddam killed them. All.

This is the Iraq democrats have defended. And wish to return. I'd say the Civil War is right here in the United States. The problem is, we're so civil.

Moonbat Alert!

John Frohnmayer has been a Senate candidate for what, one day? And today he releases this:

"My call to impeach President Bush is based on a very narrow point of law. "

Here's hoping for an interesting campaign season.

Senator Smith and the Eye of the Hurricane

On 9/11.

I was watching CNN with the volume down. One of the towers was suffering from fire on its upper floors. It seemed an airplane had struck the tower. My news director walked into the office on his way up to do the 7 o’clock news. We were both watching as the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower.

One plane could be an accident. Two planes could only be an attack.

It was a long day. Not knowing how many attacks would occur kept everyone on an alert footing. No business was conducted that day. Plans to meet friends and family were cancelled. We sat and waited.

I got a phone call from my mom. She was stuck in Las Vegas.

She was to have flown out of Vegas that morning but when she got to the airport she was told that there were no flights going out…and no projection as to when flights would resume.

She was safe. She was with friends. She had been attending a reunion of WWII Air Force veterans. They all returned to their hotel. My mom loves her gambling. There was no gambling that day. She and her friends spent the day watching television and growing angrier and more concerned.

What a community to be stuck with in Las Vegas.

Here, as it became known that air traffic would be suspended for several days, the threat of additional attacks decreased. Any additional attacks would come from a different type of threat. Those would probably occur in major metropolitan areas: New York, Chicago, Los Angeles or Houston. The people who were behind these attacks wanted the greatest possible death and injury with the least amount of effort.

Our news load jumped up to 50 percent of our programming. EAS equipment was double-checked. In thirty years of broadcasting I had never experienced a Presidential Message. The possibility of such an occurrence was higher than it had been since the Cold War days.

By 9/13 I was out talking to business leaders in our small corner of the world.

Three thousand deaths. But that hadn’t been the aim of these Islamic terrorists. If you’ve never been to New York you simply don’t “get” the size of the World Trade Center. Instead of three thousand, it could have easily been 30-thousand deaths. Or more. And we were mad. We. Americans living on the Left Coast. Looney crazy thugs had attacked us. Attacked the Pentagon. Plausibly attempted an attack on the White House.

It was time to terribly defeat this threat, so capably covered up by decades of hubris and ignorance. As events unfolded the commissioners of this policy of neglect were revealed. Names like Gorelick. Louis Freeh. Events like Blackhawk Down were re-visited. After decades of defeat and retreat, our confrontation with Islamic terror could no longer be swept under the rug.

Our nation needed to take a look at the Middle East. For the first time in its existence our nation was going to take off the gloves and defend our nation from any future attacks. We were committed to taking those steps necessary to disrupt any future places/bases for planning and commission of future attacks.

As clearly stated in his 2002 State of the Union Address, President Bush outlined his goals:

“Our second goal is to prevent regimes that sponsor terror from threatening America or our friends and allies with weapons of mass destruction. Some of these regimes have been pretty quiet since September the 11th. But we know their true nature. North Korea is a regime arming with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens.

“Iran aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom.

“Iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax, and nerve gas, and nuclear weapons for over a decade. This is a regime that has already used poison gas to murder thousands of its own citizens—leaving the bodies of mothers huddled over their dead children. This is a regime that agreed to international inspections—then kicked out the inspectors. This is a regime that has something to hide from the civilized world.

“States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.”

Since this speech, Iraq is no longer a state sponsor of terrorism. North Korea, it is reported, has agreed to end its nuclear program. Libya has ended its nuclear program. Afghanistan is working its way back from its Failed State status. Pakistan is addressing, instead of encouraging, Talibs and radical Islamists within its borders. Iran, and its surrogates Syria and Hezbollah, is clearly identified as an international threat to the world’s democratic movement. Lebanon, Israel, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia are still clearly threatened by this belligerence. As are Iraq and Afghanistan.

And yet, it seems, our country is divided. It is divided between those who believe we must choose to defeat this enemy and those who choose to appease this enemy. This in the face of the evidence. For the Marines who died in Lebanon. For sailors killed in Yemen. For soldiers killed in Somalia. From the clear and simple language of Iran’s leaders. From Syria’s assassination of Lebanese political leaders. From Hezbollah’s kidnapping of Israeli soldiers.

Lefties urge us to withdraw from our battle against this threat. I urge you to consider the words of Oregon’s junior senator, Senator Gordon Smith and ask yourself if this man understands the level of threat opposed to our nation:

“The sad truth is that the surge cannot win the peace; only Iraqi leaders are capable of stopping the bloodshed. The United States should not hand over the keys of American military and foreign policy to an Iraqi government that will not govern. The stakes are too high. America’s mission is the war on terror. Our troops should be fighting Al Qaeda not another country’s civil war.” (Audio here.) Listen to Senator Smith. It's a short clip.

“The eye of the hurricane.”

The senator needs to take a look at a map of the region to get a better idea of the size of the threat that faces this nation. And he needs to commit to standing up to this threat. He can choose to believe that simply walking away is a good plan.

History tends to show that that path leads to further death of innocent men, women and children. Senator Smith needs to find the eye of the hurricane. Even if it takes both hands.

Retreat and Defeat for Oregon's Senator Smith

My mom turned 80 last month. Here's an e-mail she sent me today:

"A cannibal was walking through the jungle and came upon a restaurant operated by a fellow cannibal. Feeling somewhat hungry, he sat down and looked over the menu...

+ Tourist: $5

+ Broiled Missionary: $10.00

+ Fried Explorer: $15.00

+ Baked Democrat or Grilled Republican: $100.00

The cannibal called the waiter over and asked, 'Why such a price difference for the politicians?

'The cook replied, "Have you ever tried to clean one? They're so full of crap, it takes all morning."

I guess that's why I've had problems with Oregon junior senator, Gordon Smith.

I've always known that Republicans thought more about their promise to their constituencies than have Democrats. For Republicans, the ultimate respect that can be paid to any American is his own ability to provide for himself. For most Oregonians working hard and providing for ones family is simply what one does. And, it's the reason for most of the past forty years Republicans have represented Oregonians in the United State Senate. The only break in this took place following Senator Packwood's leaving the Senate following the "scandal". He was fresh with women.

I’ve written several times to our Senator as a private citizen.

This is a bifurcation from my existence as a “blogger”. There are those who know who “OregonGuy” is. But, it’s not generally known. Obviously, if Benjamin Franklin had wanted to write for attribution, Poor Richard would have never been known. It is that degree of anonymity that I wish to maintain.

So, when I’ve written to our Senator, I’ve written as a private citizen. As myself. It has led to a couple of interesting interchanges between the Senator and I.

It was during the Samuel Alito confirmation that I first wrote the Senator. I wrote simply to remind him that Robert Packwood thought that he had friends among Oregon’s democrat left…and that he found he had been left twisting in the wind. Senator Packwood’s treatment of Robert Bork was legendary. Rude beyond this farmboy’s experience.

But…it had no traction. Even though Senator Packwood played to the worst of the Lefty crowd, when an opening appeared, the Left turned on our junior senator. Senator Packwood was disgraced.

Relying upon democrats in Oregon is risky business. Power comes from understanding the law and the attitudes of the voter. Senator Smith has staff that seemingly understands neither.

Let’s take a look at one of Senator Smith’s big gambles. SCHIP.

SCHIP is one of those “gateway” drugs that your mom and dad told you never to mess with. SCHIP was set up on the premise that the Tobacco Companies were paying for “kids” health. What you forgot was, for Lefties gateways are openings for mainlining.

From Governor Kulongoski’s September 5th press release:

“The SCHIP is a partnership funded by federal and state governments where, within broad federal guidelines, each state is responsible for the design of the program, establishing eligibility guidelines, benefit packages, payment levels for coverage, and administrative and operating procedures. The program provides health care coverage for approximately 41,000 Oregon children and is a vital part of the state’s safety net.”

Okay, cool. But the Governor isn’t really telling you the truth.

Under Senate Bill 3, which the Governor signed into law August 9, “Senate Bill 3 would provide access to health care insurance for children up to 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Currently, according to the Oregon Population Survey, over 100,000 children in Oregon go without health care.”

See? On September 5th it’s 41,000. Earlier, it’s over 100,000.

The Governor lie? You’d never know it from reading any newspaper in Oregon. The days of Phil Cogsdale have long ago left. (I tried to find an example of Phil’s writing on-line, but my limited resources weren’t able to find anything. And the Oregonian archives only go back to 1987.)

As SCHIP dies under the President’s veto, Oregon’s Healthy Kids initiative dies, too. Even though Oregon’s legislature passed the Healthy Kids bill earlier this year, it did so without funding the program.

So Senator Smith’s support of the program is increasingly important to the possible success of this step into Socialized Medicine. And here’s the punchline to the joke.

Remember I told the Senator in direct correspondence that he’d be a fool to rely on democrat promises, ala Bob Packwood, during the Alioto confirmation? That even though Bob Packwood savaged Robert Bork during his confirmation, at the next available moment democrats turned on Senator Packwood…for stepping on toes? (Re-live the cigar incident with intern Monica for comparison.)

So, now in play for the Senator is SCHIP, the President’s proposed veto of the SCHIP bill which will lay waste to legislation passed earlier by Oregon’s lefty legislature, and Senator Smith’s pandering to Lefties in Oregon.

So I laughed when I read this:

September 9, 2007For Immediate ReleaseContact: Jon Isaacs, 503-757-5721, isaacs@jeffmerkley.com
Rep. Deborah Boone Announces Support for Speaker Jeff Merkley for US Senate
CANNON BEACH -- State Rep. Deborah Boone (D-Cannon Beach) announced today that she will support Democrat Jeff Merkley for U.S. Senate. Boone is a second-term state representative and a former Clatsop County Commissioner."Jeff has an unmatched ability to bring together Democrats and Republicans - liberals, conservatives and everyone in between - to make a real difference in then lives of Oregonians," Boone said. "He is dedicated to making Oregon a better place to live and work, and he has demonstrated the kind of leadership Oregon needs in the U.S. Senate.""Because of Jeff's leadership, the legislature had the most productive session in three decades," Boone said. "We put more state troopers on Oregon roads for the first time in sixteen years and we reinvested in public education. Those are no small accomplishments, and they wouldn't have been possible without Jeff leading the way."In April, Smith released a list of Democrats, including Boone that he said would support his re-election bid. But after Merkley entered the race, she said that she would support him as a fellow Democrat, colleague and Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives.Boone said she informed the Smith campaign this week that she could not support his re-election.

Gee, Senator. I told you not to trust lefty democrats in Oregon.

But…you’re a seasoned, veteran campaigner.

Good luck on your election bid.

And, by the way, are you going to have a Brian Baird moment? Or are you going to continue to compete for the lowest common denominator? Retreat and defeat?

OregonGuy

“Sacred Breath of the Columbia River Gorge.”

Who is this Wunderkind of Oregon? She's the Director of the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. Her name? Stephanie Hallock.

And she has a celebration. Why? She's doing something about Global Warming.

In her press release today she talks about pollution and regional haze. And since the area being protected has less than 4 percent of the state's population (pdf), one has to wonder about the priorities of the state's environmental quality department.

This "haze" she's working on. What is it? Anybody who has worked the soil know reasons for haze. The big one is dust. Oregon DEQ is taking on dust. In farm country.

Remember the lyric from Oklahoma?

"There's a bright golden haze on the meadow,

"There's a bright golden haze on the meadow,

"The corn is as high as an elephant's eye,

"An' it looks like its climbin' clear up to the sky."

Hardly an image of post-Industrial pollution. This in an area of the state designated as "Frontier". And the cost? When did Lefties in pursuit of an agenda ever worry about costs?

"This type of engine replacement costs approximately $2 million per boat".

"It is standard practice in the shipping industry to simply rebuild the heavy duty marine diesel engines every 10 years at a significantly lower cost of approximately $160,000."

See the savings? By spending an additional $1-point-8 million dollars per boat, we will reduce gasses emitted thus:

· Reduce Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) by approximately 280 tons per year
· Reduce Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions by more than 1600 tons per year

Gasses. NO2 and CO2. Two boats. $3-point-six million dollars. Haze caused by threshing and summer follow. Frontier.

And why is this celebration so cool? Indians, man.

"The Yakama Indian Nation will perform a blessing ceremony at the celebration event."

Global Warming. Native Americans. Cool. But who pays for this?

"DEQ provided technical support for the Yakama Indian Nation who obtained a grant sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to assist Tidewater Barge Lines and Shaver Transportation with financing the engine replacements."

"However, the initial seed money from the grant was enough of an offset to allow each company to take action...and qualification for Oregon’s Business Energy Tax Credit will help defer the initial costs of replacement."

In other words, we paid for it. Millions of dollars for a perception problem. Remember, Lefties won't stop there. It's just a step and a jump before new rules mandate the expense of millions of dollars so that Lefties won't see haze in farm country.

They are sooo sensitive.
