Are We Prepared?

Sent a letter to the White House tonight.

Blogging is one thing. My business is another. Tonight I share my business. It's a risk that I normally wouldn't take. But things are happening with Al-Qaeda that make my risk-aversion shrink by comparison.

Several events have taken place in the past few months. Not the least of these has been the improvement of our armed forces in Iraq. Then there are those pesky messages from American Al-Qaeda, Addam Ghaddan.

I will include the body of my message to the White House below. The essence of my letter is an inquiry as to how the President would ask us to address the next attack Al-Qaeda is going to commit against us. And, why we don't talk about it in advance.

For those of us in the media, we are aware of the power of what we say. We are not here to create panic. Were that my wish, I could create panic. Other radio stations in this small market have, with irresponsible reporting of "potential" tsunamis. We don't do that. You can talk all you want about arguing with fellas that buy ink in 55 gallon drums. But when it comes to motivation, radio does it.

I'd like your input, too. Should radio stations advise their listeners about the impact of another attack by Al-Qaeda on US soil? There are approximately ten thousand radio stations in the US. About 1-fifth of these are country stations...as is mine.

Read the attachment I sent with my letter. Let me know.

"What would you do if our nation is attacked again?

"Hi, this is station manager XXX XXXXX.

"In the past few weeks, American Adam Gaddahn, known as the American Al-Qaeda, has delivered a message to his fellow countrymen, you and me, from Afghanistan. According to Gaddahn, from KTUU television, Anchorage, “al Qaeda is vowing to keep up the fight”.

"Recently, there have been radiological threats against New York, Miami and Los Angeles attributed to Adam Gaddahn’s messages from Al-Qaeda.

"Again, the question is, what will you do when America is attacked again?

"We haven’t been attacked since nine-eleven. And, for the last six years I think we’ll all agree we’ve been lucky. We’re an open country that believes in open borders and open relationships. And it’s this openness that terrorists are attacking.

"Talking about the attack before it happens will help us deal with it. We’re not used to being attacked. Living in Israel, maybe you’d be used to it.

"Last time, the emotional hit could have cost us more than a trillion dollars in lost business in America and thousands of lost lives. The losses in New York were terrible. But losses occurred in small towns like ours, as well. Businesses that were there in 2001 are gone. Tragic business downturns hurt more than just the direct victims of an attack. Families that relied on small businesses were closed. And are gone.

"Next time, we need to shoulder our responsibilities and make sure the terrorists don’t hurt us that badly again. They can hurt our nation. They can’t kill our nation.

"But, are you prepared for the next attack against our nation?

"A public service message from your locally owned radio station, WZZZ."

Weird Stuff

What is socialism? It's a place where your desires don't matter. You apply to the state for "help". Have a medical problem? Fill out the forms...we'll let you know what's gonna happen.

"We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

Hillary ClintonJune 29, 2004

"It’s time to replace an 'on your own' society with one based on 'shared responsibility and prosperity."

Hillary ClintonMay 29, 2007

From CNN Video, you can watch and listen to Hillary Clinton. First off, you're going to hear that Southern drawl thingy. Or, maybe it's "talking Black". I can't tell. It's disturbing, though.

Next, listen to her talk about Medicare. Watch your jaw drop as you realize "they" truly have us. Between tort lawyers doctors afraid of punitive law suits, the costs of providing health care has risen so much that for many elderly, without Medicare healthcare would be hard to afford. Do doctors want to work for Medicare?

And the lie..."no other advanced country has so many of its citizens without healthcare..."

Just because I don't have insurance, I don't have healthcare? What about all those folks who run down to the county health service for primary healthcare? Don't they count? I mean, we've been paying the beaucoup in bucks to support this system. Do you mean nobody is using it now?

Finally, listen to the bitch slap on this reporter. This video was taken at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention. Uh, are you saying that a black feller who disagrees with you is simply the product of poor education? Mam?

Want socialism?

Politics or Science?

Science as a tool. Agendas serviced by science. Patrick Moore, one of the organizers of Greenpeace talked about environmentalism using science as a tool of fear...to support an agenda.

Locally this agenda is advanced by such sciencey guys as Governor Kulongoski, and the Lefties in the legislature. What's up with Senate Bill 420?

"This legislation creates the Environmental Justice Task Force, charged with working with state agencies to better educate low income Oregonians and minority populations on the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and policies. This legislation ensures the fair environmental involvement of all Oregonians regardless of race, age, gender, national origin, education or income level."

I hope the kids get cool uniforms and powers. "Environmental Justice Task Force, Powers On!" And then the kids bunch their fists together and transform into Super Heroes!

I know how important it is to get low income and minority populations involved. Even if it's only through the third party experience of a governmental agency. When I tell low income and minority folks about their new Justice Task Force their faces light up. They know they're helping, if only by existing. Oregon Moves Forward! You gotta love livin' in this state...

But, where science has helped all the logging and fishing communities of Oregon, with such wonderful concerns as native fish and spotted owls, somehow this massive intrusion of science has created a few more pockets of low income and minority communities. School districts that used to be able to rely on the ad valorem tax are now dependent upon Federal bailouts. (Gotta keep those county employees employed.)

I'm glad the legislature has been able to address the lack of jobs in rural/wilderness Oregon.(pdf)

And now we begin to find out that Global Warming is a crock. Why? Because the data doesn't fit the hypothesis that Global Warming advocates are trying to advance. Maybe it's not a lie. But it is certainly wrong.

Is it science? Is it politics? The governor signs House Bill 3543.

“'Global warming is an issue that impacts all of us and requires immediate attention,” said Governor Kulongoski. “Today marks the next step in Oregon’s leadership on global warming by adopting some of the most aggressive greenhouse gas reduction goals in the nation.'

"Under House Bill 3543, Oregon is charged with reducing emissions to 10 percent below 1990 levels by 2020 and 75 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. This legislation also creates a climate change resource center within the Oregon University System and establishes a permanent global warming commission to replace the advisory groups that have been serving the Governor for the last three years."

Didja get that? We have the Justice League, a climate resource center and a permanent commission this year. Why are Republicans upset?

The Statesman Journal reported government will add 1,777 new positions.

“Oregonians haven’t seen this rapid of an increase in government in over a decade, yet the Governor is using his veto authority to prevent an accountability measure designed to watch over our dollars,” said Senator Ted Ferrioli (R-John Day). “I think Oregonians would be disappointed to know our Governor doesn’t think greater accountability is important.” (See this post.)

The biggest industries in Oregon used to be Timber and Fishing. It's now Science. Uh, Science Through Government. Science With Justice. Science, to transform Wilderness and Rural Communities into Wilderness and Rural Communities. And billions will be spent! I know it sounds like a pipedream, turning Oregon into a rural/wilderness state. The beauty of it is, it's already a reality. All we have to do to finish the creation of this Utopian State is to outlaw development outside of the I-5 corridor. Which, is pretty much complete.

Thanks to Oregon's Leaders. Living the fantasy is more important than creating the jobs.

Limits to Mischief

Living in what was once a quite civilized state, the pleasure of knowing that we would have eighteen months before that behemoth called Legislature was one of the prizes of late summer. These FDR wannabees have had their six-seven months in the sun. They have inflicted their jaundiced will upon the people. We have stupid new rules that nobody will no about until someone runs afoul of "the law". Sometime in October we'll be getting our property tax bill. Renters will be getting their rent increase notices during the next year...depending on their rent agreement/lease. Business taxes will be figured in March. Personal taxes in April

Until then, you really can't gauge the damage that this current crop of demigods has committed. And just to make sure you don't, and never will know, the Governor announces his veto on Senate Bill 1039. Who cares? Well, it's kinda obvious the Governor doesn't. After all, who would want someone qualified checking on the job he's doing? Isn't that how he got into trouble with SAIF?

The Governor says he doesn't need it.

“My veto of Senate Bill 1039 is motivated by my respect for the separate and equally important roles that our Constitution assigns to the different branches of government,” the Governor continued. “The review and analysis of agency administration can and must be accomplished by the executive branch in consultation with the other branches of government. I do not believe that the creation of a new government entity which blurs the lines between the exercise of Constitutional functions of the different branches of government is the best or most effective way of accomplishing these important goals.”

Yeah. Blabba-dee-blabba-dee-blab.

The bill would have created a standing committee to examine state agencies’ use of taxpayer dollars, create initiatives for more efficient agency performance and serve as an avenue for the public to keep government accountable.

According to Senator Frank Morse, “It is unfortunate that the Governor has chosen to veto a collaborative process that would include the executive branch, members of the legislature, and members of the private sector who have experience in creating high performing organizations. The bill says that we want to see increased performance wherever a tax dollar goes, not just today, but for decades to come. Oregonians want a government that is accountable and constantly working to be more efficient. The status quo is not good enough.”

But, again, who cares? The Lefties in Oregon have been running roughshod over the folks simply because the folks don't care. Mention biennial sessions in a bar the next time your out. Nothing.

Mention that the Governor has signed into law a new creature...an unfunded state mandate.

Governor Ted Kulongoski today signed into law Senate Bill 3, the legislation that creates the Healthy Kids Plan, which provides a plan “to provide affordable, accessible health care for Oregon’s children.” Senate Bill 3 was one of the Governor’s top priorities during the legislative session.

The only problem is? There's no funding for the program.

We now have created unfundate non-federal mandates. I think this is the first in the country.

So, now you know why SB1039 was killed. We have no room for accountability in Oregon.

And we like it that way.
