Mind Numbingly Inept Effort to Support the Troops

Below, find a post on Senator Smith, click on the audio link, and listen to his confused surrender speech.

Compare and contrast with Democrat Senator Joe Lieberman:

"Yeah, this is a danger. And you know, there’s a group within the party, a small group, that’s very activist, very aggressive, very left, and driving the agenda. Obviously, what’s also happened, for the reasons that we talked about before, Hugh, is that the war has generally become unpopular, so now there’s actually a broader political incentive to be against the war. But you know, as I said the other day on the floor, the folks didn’t send us here, they didn’t elect us just so we would work to get reelected. They elected us to be leaders, to protect the country, to defend our values, our freedom. And you know, I think this is a challenge, the likes of which we have not faced for a long, long time. And we’re only going to defeat the challenge if we pull together. Partisanship here has gone crazy, but the worst part of it is that it’s now a significant part of our debate about foreign and defense policy. And who benefits from that? Our enemies. I mean, sometimes around here, people treat each other like members of the other party are the enemy. The Islamist extremists are the enemy."

Why is our Republican senator more far left than the lefties in the Democrat party? Well, in order to show support for the troops, Gordo attempts to buy cred with this great idea:

Discount passes for veterans!

No joke. For what passes as a brain in Washington, D.C., your senator announced the following:

Washington, DC – At a Thursday hearing of the National Parks Subcommittee, U.S. Senator Gordon H. Smith (R-OR) advocated for his legislation to provide veterans with a discounted pass card to any federal park.

“The discount is the right thing to do for veterans who have returned home, whether it be from Baghdad this year or Berlin a generation ago,” Smith said. “This is emblematic of the treatment our troops should receive when they come home.”

Presently, anyone may purchase an America the Beautiful lands pass for $80.00, which grants them access to any federal park, national forest or wildlife refuge. Senator Smith’s bill, the Veterans Eagle Park Pass, would make an annual pass available to veterans for just $10.00. Discounted passes are already available to senior citizens and permanently disabled persons.

“The American Legion fully supports the reduced fee for veterans as a fitting honor for these veterans who selflessly risked life and limb, not only in defense of the Constitution, but for the very land in which we live,” Dean Stoline, Assistant Director of the American Legion Nation Legislative Commission said at Thursday’s hearing.

The bill is also strongly supported by AmVets and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The bill will be voted on by the Committee on Energy."

To call this embarrassing is to undervalue the clear meaning of what rises to the level of shame. This idea doesn't even get that far.

Borders, security, defense of the market. Sort of the trinity of Republicanism. Somebody nudge the senator and let him know naptime is over.

Gordon Smith: Beyond the Dunder Zone!

While the Lieberman Amendment is being debated on the floor of the Senate, Gordo stands up to tell the boys why he supports cut and run in Iraq.

"Sure, I'd like to win", he says. "But given that I don't know what's going on over there, let's just get our boys back home."

Meanwhile, grownups are pointing out that the number one enemy of peace in Iraq is their neighbor, Iran. Something about blowing up our boys with their explosive devices. Oh, and their troops.

Somebody give Gordo a clue bat? Or is he too wedded to the wacko lefties that he can't tell if trees indicate forest or not?
You can listen to Gordo here. Amazing.

Somebody Send A Note

Equilibrium.
It's what markets achieve when left to themselves.
Add that to the Laffer Curve and you have the bases for our economy.
Dems and Lefties don't get it.

Here's a note from your friend, Robert Mugabe.

If your heroes are Castro, Lenin, Chavez or H. Clinton, here's just a taste of what's in store for your new reality based economy. Unfortunately, Senator Smith believes in price controls, too. And he's a Republican.

Or, at least he is, purportedly.
