As Disturbing As The Pictures Were

the video post makes my stomach ache.

Just click on the link. When you hear about the Governor meeting with demonstrators to push a new tax, a new program for Kids, for the Elderly, for Teachers or the Public Employee Unions, remember what you see here.

Who is your favorite Lefty politician? Has he or she disassociated himself/herself from these "activists"? No?

Didn't think so.

Surrender Monkies Are Cute

No surprise here.

Congressman Wu votes to surrender in Iraq. Lefties will argue "he had to" vote for surrender, otherwise rural school districts in Oregon will be left without the funds to operate their schools. In saner times, we would have national and state legislators willing to fight the Leftie judges who have closed the timber for "environmental" reasons. But these aren't saner times. If you look at the hysteria over "global warming" you begin to see that the Lefties really do want to shut down economic activity in Oregon. It's all so "businessy". Taking care of the environment is good. Kids are good, we need to do more for the elderly, teachers and public employees.

Those are the goals of our elected representatives. They keep telling you over and over again. Do you think it's a joke? We used to cut trees. Now we must rely upon the kindness of strangers.

Great leadership, guys.

Kill a Bear for...what exactly?

Somebody asked me if I wasn't being non-truthy. The comment was predicated by a post I made where I had asked whether or not you wanted this state to be known by its Radical Left.

One of my readers asked if I was being fair. After all, this kind of hysteria is more reminiscent of Kristallnacht than simple disagreement. I shuddered to think that this intelligent reader didn't see the confluence between our past and our present.

There is a group of people who see themselves as beyond the law. They believe in global warming. They believe in things you and I never could. Like telling a business what to make, or how much to make. They believe they need to tell you and I what to do with our money. Our businesses. Our children. These are all Lefties. They make me afraid. The only distance between them and us is paying attention to what our politically appointed or elected officials are saying or doing. And too many of us don't pay attention, and don't care.

Being a Lefty doesn't mean you're right. Correct. What it means is, you're scarey. Really scarey. And you intend to be. That doesn't mean you aren't willing to be crazy.

The baby polar bear above was targetted by the Left. They wanted to kill it. The child to the left was killed supporting terrorists. Which was cuter? And why does the Left lionize the terror, and not recognize the terror of the bear?

How Much More Do You Want To Pay?

The new state budget is coming together. Your government is only going to require you to pay an additional $473,500,000.00 in new fees and taxes.

This is in addition to increased revenues from an improving economy and increased tax revenues.

The general agreement is still vague, but I'll try to get something more transparent up as it becomes available.

I included a cute picture of a baby seal for the Lefties to view. Remember, if it purports to be for kids, the elderly, school teachers or public employee unions, its gotta be good.

Pwned by North Dakota

I don't believe we are a Lefty state.

Sure, there are a lot of Lefties making a lot of noise. And they've got great issues. Kids, the elderly. School teachers. Public employees.

One top one? Global warming? Heard of it?

Another? Opposition to the war in Iraq. And what better way to show your opposition to war than to burn a US soldier in effigy? (Click on the pic for more compassion.)From this past weekend in the Park Blocks. The building behind the Compassionate Left is the Schnitz.
In North Dakota they do it different. I'm old fashioned. I think they do it better. Your thoughts?

Imagine a Perfect Governor

Imagine an Oregon with a perfect governor. What would he be like?

He'd be handsome, like Governor Hatfield. He'd be smart, like Governor Atiyeh. He'd be funny, the kind of guy who would take you to a bar and buy you beers while a couple of guys arm-wrestle. He'd be like Tom McCall.

He'd worry about taking care of business. He'd be like Governor McKay, even Governor Holmes.

But what else would he be?

He would be a leader. When everybody around him was being stupid, or overly-excited, or simply not focused on the business of state, the Governor would govern. Oregon has a rich tradition of gubernatorial leadership. When faced with the possible confrontation between lefties and the American Legion, Governor McCall threw Vortex. When women were dying in back room abortion clinics, Governor Hatfield legalized abortion. When Democrats threatened to turn Oregon into a socialist paradise, Governor Atiyeh stood up and explained that the role of the state was to allow business to be successful. Not hip, not cool. Not chick.

So what do we have today? An opportunist trying to trade political influence on the back of fear.

This article, from the former Senior Scientist for Climate Studies at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center talks about the need for leadership in science. There is a tendency to follow political desires, rather than scientific fact, when discussing Global Warming. Our governor is trading on the backs of the ignorant. And the political weak. And stupid.

Read what Dr. Spencer has to say. Compare and contrast with the Governor's Plan. Imagine a state with a governor smart enough to ask good questions.

Just think about it. A governor who asked good questions...

What Would You Call It?

What would you call it when a legislator receives campaign contributions during a period when such contributions are illegal?

"House Rule 19.20(a) Campaign Contributions During Session. No member of the
House, during session, shall accept and/or solicit a contribution to the
member or the member's principal campaign committee or accept and/or solicit
an expenditure in support of the member from any person."

It doesn't bother Lefties because they're Lefties. They are only doing what is Right. In the Post-Modern, Post-Normal world, lefties don't worry about law. Just getting what they want.

Are these "Campaign Efforts"? You tell me. Here's the postcard. Here's a recording of a campaign phone call.

Now, don't try to assert that the democrats don't know what the rules are. They were all feeling chumped because the Gov could collect funds while senators and representatives had to sit on their hands.

Obviously, two dems had their hands out. Here's the Press Release.

What would you pay for a 3rd grade education?

Here are some links about the State's problems with education. Here, here and here.

But before you read the latest missive from the state, I'd ask you guess what we pay to educate our kids. From Kindergarten to a child's senior year. What do we pay, per year, per child?

Click on the graph above to get all the info.

There are just over two thousand children in Astoria's school district.

On September 25th there was no school. October 13th? 19th?20th? No school.

November 9th, 10th, 22nd, early dismissal, 23rd Thanksgiving.

December 18th-January 1, Winter Break. January 15th, MLK day.

Feb 2, Feb 12, Feb 19, no school.

March 15-16, no school. 26th- 30th no school.

April 13, no school. May 7-8 no school. And don't think about June. School lets out on the 14th. Teachers quit working on April 26th.

Drive by the high school at 1 in the afternoon and the parking lot is empty. So don't tell me you pay more for the high school kids.

And what do we pay to educate a kindergartner? $7, 398.00 per year. In Astoria Schools we pay $16,031,466.00 per year to educate two thousand kids.

And by the way, the capital budget is separate from the operating budget.

Lol. Educators. Underpaid.

Another White House Scandal

h/t HHewitt

It's like the Gang that "Couldn't Shoot Straight". I guess I'm not surprised.

"Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." -Mark Twain

We need a Governor who takes global warming more seriously. As a tool. To make Oregon better.

When we were kids, there were a couple of things, we were taught, that we have no control over.

One was the "common cold". The other, the weather.

Now the Doom and Gloom advocates of teh Left are telling you that Man Is Responsible for Global Warming.

And I ask the question, "Okay, if so, then what degree of Global Warming should be plan for, before we begin reducing global temperatures?"

The IPCC projects a global temperature increase of anywhere from 1.4 - 5.8°C from 1990-2100.

Way cool. But the advocates of Global Warming are making a serious tactical error in their arguments against industrialization. Instead of attempting to decrease man-made greenhouse gasses, they should ramp them up!

Give me a 2°C increase in the next five years, and I'll be happy. Then, whatever it is we did to ramp up the temp a quick 2c, turn it off. We'll be a little warmer? Yeah. We'll have better farm crops? Yeah. The number of solar radiation induced mutants will decrease? Oh, yeah. And we have only touched the surface.

Not only would this short-term increase in the world's temperature benefit me, it would also "prove" to the skeptics that man-made gasses are a): responsible for increases in temperature; and b) that we can finally control our climate. And what an incredible economic tool for us!

If agriculture in China starts to take off, we can reduce the amount of man-made gasses increasing the global temperature to a point where it's the Ice Age again!

Let's get serious. What does Oregon offer, beyond gray, gloomy days? Why not become the next Temperate Zone? That would seriously drive up the value of my home, I'm thinking.

We need to get serious about Global Warming. Why does the Governor oppose a warmer, gentler Oregon?

Pwnage!

Teh kids say taht.

Careful of some language here, but there's a Great Dane on the Rottweiler's page. I've come to the belief that the reason why people can accept the premise of GW is because they have no math skills. You've probably heard this one:

The state department of Geology and Mineral Industries is hiring mathematicians. Three recent graduates are invited for an interview: one has a degree in pure mathematics, another one in applied math, and the third one obtained his B.Sc. in statistics.

All three are asked the same question: "What is one third plus two thirds?"

The pure mathematician: "It's one."

The applied mathematician takes out his pocket calculator, punches in the numbers, and replies: "It's 0.999999999."

The statistician: "What do you want it to be?"

Remember, kitties are cute.

Kittens are cute.

Osama is a good man.

George Bush just won't listen.
